One such scheme is the Pudhumai Penn scheme which gives financial assistance to girls to complete their education.

What is Pudhumai Penn Scheme?

The Tamil Nadu Government launched the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance scheme to increase the enrollment ratio of girls from government schools and higher education institutions. The Pudhumai Penn scheme provides the benefits under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Higher Education Assurance Scheme and takes care of new student registrations.

The Pudhumai Penn scheme provides monetary assistance to girls and young women enrolled in government educational institutions. It aims to improve the general well-being of female students and encourage them to continue their studies. It provides financial assistance to economically weaker families who cannot send their daughters to schools and colleges due to financial constraints.

Pudhumai Penn Scheme Eligibility

  • Students from economically weaker sections, as defined by the college's criteria.
  • Preference is given to students who are the first in their families to pursue higher education.
  • Students must maintain a minimum academic performance as specified by the program guidelines.

What is the benefit of the Pudhumai Penn Scheme?

The Pudhumai Penn scheme provides financial assistance of Rs.1,000 per month to girls studying in 6th-12th classes in government schools till they complete their UG degree, ITI, diploma or any other recognised course, irrespective of the field.

The amount of Rs.1,000 is disbursed directly to the student’s bank account every month.

The Pudhumai Penn scheme encourages female students to continue their education by providing financial assistance, boosting their confidence, and discouraging parents from allowing their daughters to marry at a young age.

It aims to help 6 lakh female students annually and has been budgeted at Rs.698 crore.
